Teacher Workshop: Puppetry in the Classroom

Friday, November 2, 2012

“It helped me think how I can use simple materials to create creative puppets to interact with the children I work with. Gave me ideas for further areas of work that I am interested in pursuing – storytelling, musical interactions.” Feedback from past workshop

Shakespeare-in-the-Schools is pleased to offer our 2nd Puppetry Teacher Workshop! Professional puppet artist, Lisa Leibering, will lead our Beyond the Paper Bag: Puppetry in the Classroom workshop.

In this hands-on workshop, educators learn how to incorporate puppetry into their classroom in order to expand learning opportunities for all students and enhance their teaching in any subject (yes, even math and science!).  Participants will create several simple puppets, experience basic manipulation techniques, and engage in storytelling exercises.  They will also learn tips for introducing puppetry to their students and incorporating this versatile art form into virtually any lesson plan.

This workshop is intended for anyone who is a teacher.  From a college classroom to a community center, a preschool to a park, the lessons workshop participants experience can be utilized with all ages in a variety of settings.
